@Jod Dan: Already answered a few comments ago, it's a placeholder sprite for a ground pound move that was never implemented.

Why is there sliding sprites? The slopes aren’t in SMM!

I don't know why it's comedic to me that when Mario gets a Fire Flower he just gets tinted a slight red, his palette just goes a tad bit red

The sprites where mario is doing serveral thing are they called for example: run/jump and swim/grab?

Added the "combo" Fire Flower and Super Leaf sprites.

@UltraMario3000: The animation name in the game files is actually "hipdrop". The jumping frame next to it for all but Fire Mario is labelled "wall_kick" and has a minor difference compared to the regular animation.
Seems Nintendo might've ditched the idea of having those two abilities from the NSMB engine early, the palettes don't even match the rest of the sprites!

Mario has a sliding sprite... Could this mean they were potentially planning on having slopes? Or could it just be a leftover from SMB3...

- The slope sliding sprites are supposed to be the Ground Pound move, as the New Super Mario Bros. U moveset was planned to be incorporated into every game style at one point. These sprites also have very slightly different color palettes.
- On top of this, there is a duplicate of Small/Regular Mario's jumping sprite and unused sprites of Mario's other forms (except for Fire Mario) jumping with his foot more forward with the same palette as the sliding sprites, which were supposed to be the Wall Jump from New Super Mario Bros. U.
- The sprites of Mario's head with the bottom pixels slightly lengthened are used for when he is in the Goomba's Shoe. The Super Mario Bros. game style has similar sprites, but I forgot to mention them in the comment I made there.
