that old chain chomp sprite interestingly is closer to the paper mario sticker star e3 2010 chain chomp as the eyes on that chain chomp are bigger, perhaps this could be a hint at the chain chomp partner being repurposed as princess in this game
I think the female chain chomp is an early version of princess
Interestingly the female Chomp (Princess) looks more like the old Paper Chain Chomp designs, even with the same shading.
