I'm pretty sure the reason his shell is blue is because of palette limitatios since bensalot used blue to make his wings (the wings are not separete from his body) also boom boom did never have a really oficial shell color in the artworks of smb3.
To anybody wondering, Mad Lad here is in one of the spare castles, y'know, the small SMB1 lookin' things. I don't remember what world it's in tho.

The shell being blue fits in with other inaccurate details found in SMW, like Mario having a yellow emblem on his cap

@QuadFactor Yep, they made his shell blue. I'm still wondering why they did that. But I like these anyways.
