If you look closely, you can tell Tomator's death sprite was built from an update of his Lost Vikings standing sprite. You can even see parts of his rifle. Presumably he was originally going to face you outside of his saucer, either as another phase or in place of the saucer fights. I wonder if there's any data left in the game of that updated standing sprite.
