@AnthonyVCL Due to the difficulty of Labyrinth Zone, they had to deviate from the original zone order, which was: Green Hill -> Labyrinth -> Marble -> Star Light -> Spring Yard -> Scrap Brain. The original order was supposed to reflect the progression from nature to technology.

this is why sonic 1 always had a sort of grounded/disconnected feel to everything for me, the amount of fields and ruins that are just ignored by the game to go underground in marble zone, the way in spring yard you're basically separated from the actual city by miles of foliage, how here you're on the unfinished side of a city. there's always that on going sense of there being so much more to explore yet you're here, cast away from everything

for whatever reason this doesn't look like something Robotnik would make. I feel like if Robotnik made this it would be more robotic and less like your normal city at night. It's surprisingly kind of peaceful.

Hey look! It's the city zone!

Eh to me the distant background looks like the ancestor of Chemical Plant's background, so not too much.

To me at least it looks like something outside of the art style of this game, sorta more like an arcade game at the time. The only thing I'd say that actually DOES remind me of Sonic is the star background. Probably because of the colors.
