How long until Segapede is reintroduced through the Scrapnik Island storyline? There's now several of Dr. Eggman's robots going rogue so perfect time to reintroduce him.

Reading this interview with Craig Sitt from '01 it seems this game was his passion project. After it got canceled, it seems he left SEGA. I guess that's why he dumped the ROM, I guess he had to wait almost 30 years do to contract issues.

I heard about this game a while back while looking for information regarding Hidden Palace Zone. It's great that we have a ROM now! It feels good to have a more playable Hidden Palace Zone even if it's not from Sonic the Hedgehog 2 itself.
Thank you, Craig Stitt and the people over at hiddenpalace.org! (It's kind of ironic, huh? :P)

@MarioMadness734 Yep but we didn't know much about it until a couple of years ago when Craig Stitt uploaded stuff on Facebook, there wasn't any previews in magazines. This is from an earlier build as it would have been called Astropede later in development.
As for why it has Hidden Palace, it's because it was developed by STI. STI co-developed Sonic 2 and the American artists I think did do that level (some levels were done by the American side and some were done by the Japanese side). You can find bits of their work on Sonic 2 in Sonic Spinball and some other cancelled games too. STI had more games cancelled than released ones due to lack of focus and long development times (by comparison BlueSky or Novotrade who could churn out a game in a few weeks/months).
Also the game was originally planned to be a spinoff starring a badnik and was connected to the Sonic universe with Robotnik/Eggman being involved but then became its own thing.

What... is this? Is this a real prototype? And if so, why is it using assets from Sonic 2?

@Shedjr_ This WAS supposed to be connected to the Sonic universe, Segapede was a badnik gone rouge to work with Sonic himself, but Sega did not like the idea. The Hidden Palace tiles were a placeholder. The story of this proto is so interesting tbh.

THAT WAS QUICK! glad this got dumped!

Oh wow, I didn't know the ROM had been dumped! I wonder if this game would've been set in the Sonic universe, guess we'll never know.

Wow, that was fast. I was considering ripping it as well. ^^
