While we *technically* don't have confirmation mystery man is Gaster, we also don't have confirmation that chara is the narrator, but everyone says they are because there's so much evidence pointing to that conclusion. gaster's full name and his wingdings font implies he is a skeleton, and mystery man is the only "gaster" sprite that looks like a skeleton.

It was probably called Gaster for easiness sake. It's easier than the sheet being called "Mystery Man, Redacted, and Gaster Followers"
