And that is true but we weren't talking about that.

@Nega I didn't say they were linked. I'm saying what they wanted to be the most notable part of it vs. what became the most notable part of it.

Storytelling has nothing to do with the gameplay system. The story is perfectly fine, for what a drama's worth. The game is known as "the thing where you say melon and get booted from the house." because Let's Players made it popular and Let's Players mostly just seek fun for both them and the audience, not a drama. That isn't to say the story is bad, but that it's not made for the people who made the game popular. But we weren't talking about the story anyway, we were talking about the gameplay and how well the system for understanding what you type works.

Well there's a reason this game is less-known nowadays as a masterpiece of storytelling and more as "the thing where you say melon and get booted from the house."

Well I don't know what things your friend was saying to them, of course more simple sentences will always work better for the game, but I haven't ever seen many people complain about it, nor have I found it a very consistent issue when playing.

@Nega All I know is when watching my bestie attempt to do a serious run of it, stuff like that kept happening. That was a standout example and a particularly bad one considering the game's plot.

@Doc von Schmeltwick An oversight? I never said the game's system is perfect, I'm saying that it is way too complex to be called "primitive". The game just interpreted what you said as "I love you". Taking a once in a blue moon example and using it as justification to discredit the game is unfair if you ask me. For a game made in the time it was made in, you'd expect it to have WAY more oversights like this, yet it rarely ever happens. Even now this game would be VERY hard to code, which is why no one has bothered trying to remake it or do a game with the same system to this day, think about that.

@Nega Explain how the game can't understand that, in a story about a failing marriage, a query with the words "love" and "you" will always be interpreted as "flirting."

@Doc von Schmeltwick The game's AI is not primitive. It's actually insanely complex with thousands of lines for so many events. Also consider that the game was done by a very small team through the 2000's and even before. It's a miracle that there is so much variety in the game and not just 3 lines repeating for everything you say. If they coded the system perfectly for every possible question then they would've gone mad and would've been developing the game for over 15 years or more, which is not a very pleasing thing to image.

This game's primitive AI is laughable.
Q: "Don't you two love each other?"
A: "Stop flirting with us."

mcdonalds and you.

@PixelCruch By "emotions" you mean the couple's faces and the expressions they make? Because those aren't sprites, they're all 2D vectors and lines, aswell as their whole bodies, that are coded in a way so that they look 3D.

@PixelCrunch If I recall correctly, their names are "Grace" and "Trip".

Pewdiepie brought me here!

Ruining new marriages since 2005.
(I think you should add the emotions of the couple. I don’t remember their names.)
