Submission Guidelines
Last Updated: June 9, 2025
Submitting to the Resource sites can be tricky if you aren’t well versed in some of our standards. We will try to keep these guidelines streamlined, but please make sure you read through before you make a mistake which could wind up costing you a lot more time than you will spend reading.
Before Uploading
• Search to make sure your submission isn’t already on the site.
• Submit to the correct game and section.
• Only upload your own rips. We DO NOT ACCEPT STOLEN CONTENT. Doing so will result in your account being suspended.
• No fan-made or original characters – official game content only!
Quality Standards
• Only clean, unedited rips.
• Make sure you're uploading an accepted file format.
• Organize and name files clearly.
• Avoid partial or incomplete submissions unless appropriate.
What Is Acceptable?
✔️ Characters, enemies, objects, backgrounds, UI elements and effects from official games.
✔️ HUD graphics or fonts.
✔️ Sound effects, dialogue, general audio effects.
❌ Fan-made sprites or mock-ups.
❌ Unedited screenshots.
❌ Random or disorganized data dumps.
❌ Rips from extremely small, unrecognized fan-games.
❌ Music rips.
❌ Cutscene dialogue and "Everything" submissions.
Site staff will judge if a game is recognizable enough to be accepted. We only accept rips from commercially released or notable games. We only accept custom content that appears within a game, or game related media, such as characters from Sonic the Hedgehog comics, cartoons, etc.
File Formats
• PNG images, GIF animated icons, ZIP archive files.
• Images should remain unedited, at their original scale, without compression.
• ZIP archives should be arranged logically.
• .OBJ and .DAE model formats. One of these formats is required. Additional formats optional.
• .WAV audio. If audio is stored as MP3 or OGG before conversion, these are acceptable as-is.
File Formats
We accept PNG & GIF images, or ZIP archives. We advise you to use .PNG, as GIF can have color limitations. PNG also accepts alpha transparency. For ZIPs, we advise that you organize your submissions with folders where possible.
How do I upload content to the site?
• Register an account, or log in. Make sure your account is verified with a valid email address.
• Browse to the relevant page (Console, or Game) and click "Add Asset". You can add new games this way.
• /addasset/ link? FINISH THIS LINE
• Fill in all of the required details
• Click submit to enter your submission into the queue.
Adding a New Game
You can add a new game to the site from the Add Asset page. From the browse page, click Add Asset and you will be guided through the submission process. Games require an icon to be approved.
A Game icon is a cropped image from the game in question at 240px x 125px - please make this a screenshot when possible, or official artwork for the Custom/Edited category.
Here is a quick overview of what makes for a good game contribution;
• Make sure the game isn't already in our database.
• You icon must be in .PNG format.
• The icon should decently represent the game.
• Try to use a clean screenshot for the icon rather than a JPEG. If the game is pixel based, try to use a native a 1 x 1 pixel ratio image.
• Don't use the game's title screen. Try to make it interesting - some sort of action taking place works great!
• Try to frame your screenshot nicely. Where possible, avoid the HUD or menu images in your icon.
• Avoid game spoilers, such as a final boss or plot twist.
• What makes this game unique - what sets it apart from other games? For example, Tails debuted in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. A good Sonic 2 icon should include him.
• Vary screenshots within a series. Just because Mega Man shoots doesn't mean he has to be in the same shooting position in every icon.
How do I rip content?
While our website is focused on content extracted from games, we are not a complete source for information on how to reverse engineer or rip content from every game on the market. While we do have some information that may be of assistance to you on our VG Resource Wiki, it may not cover the specific game you are looking to rip. We would suggest joining our Discord community as an initial step to ask for information (be sure to ask in the correct channel) but you may be best seeking information on the wider internet.
Why is my pending submission taking so long?
Our pending submissions go through manual verification which requires a member of our staff to verify that is it suitable to go on the site. There are a number of reasons why there may be delays to your submission being processed - verifying you have supplied all necessary information (Correct naming and capitalization, an asset icon, game icon (if needed), and tags) while also making sure your submission follows the quality requirements to be approved will help speed the process along. Please be aware that we do not always run through the queue in chronological order, and will make efforts to reduce the queue size as a priority - this means large contributions to the same game will likely be processed quicker.
