@RavenclawNimbus its a mask, used to selectively change/apply effects to different parts of an image, where white will apply the effect and black will not. in this case, i have no idea what it's used for in-game (maybe for the idle animation? where it squishes up and down), but u could, for example, use it as a hue/saturation mask in photoshop to change the color of the pink and blue parts

@dogtoon64 @RavenclawNimbus
I think that's a type of texture. notice how bland the base mushroom looks?
alternatively, it seems to just be the black parts of the base texture.

I still find it pretty disappointing how an interesting course part such as this is only exclusively available for ground night theme. Not to mention this item itself is already quite gimmicky so people barely even use them to begin with. So underrated imo, hopefully in the next installment (if there's even one) they'll let us use some night theme "gags" into an actual part of the game that we can use and take control anywhere else without having restriction for seemingly no reason.

That's a spooky face

@DogToon64: I would think it had something to do with a glow, but that doesn't seem to be the case in-game. I looked, and there's no effect of any sort.

@RavenclawNimbus: According to the file name, it's called a "mask" (I think, I could be wrong). Not sure how it's used, someone else will have to explain what it's for.

What is the black and white one for?

@Murphmario: Fixed.

These are called Rotten Mushrooms, Poison Mushrooms aren't in Super Mario Maker 2.
