Pretty much what 15KnucklesLover said, yeah (there's only Splatoon-based new stuff for the Mii Outfit Icons and Vehicle Parts). I'll change the Race Results icon though just to make things more varied.

@Akira; Or maybe Random Talking Bush decided to use said icons to showcase the new things added to MK8DX, like with the Feather for the items icon, and not having to do with some arbitrary release. But hey, the world may never know.

the TSR placeholder (ahem icon) for the outfits and karts (+the race result BGs) are Splatoon's, i wonder if it were because of Splatoon 2 or if it were something deeper.
also, idk why there is a Creeper sticker in the Splatoon Kart.

OK, well I'm a Petey Piranha fanboy who only looks at Battle Mode as a curiosity due to rarely having anyone to play with, and no online gaming capability due to Dish not having unlimited bandwidth, and cable not being an option due to location, and doesn't care about Splatoon at all.

So I guess I'll either skip it or wait until it becomes $20 like Treasure Tracker seems to have.

As someone that owned the original on the Wii U and bought all the DLC, I would say it depends entirely on how much you care about the character roster and the battle mode.
If you love Battle Mode and was sorely disappointed with the original Mario Kart 8's version, this is so worth it. You have 5 different battle modes, 1 of which is brand new, and they can all be played online.
As for the new characters, again it depends on how much are care about them, if you're a huge fan of Bowser Jr, King Boo, Dry Bones, and the Inklings, then yeah I'd say it's worth it. Plus remember this game has double items back as well as a 3rd level to drift boost so the chaos is even bigger on this 1.
And as Deep Weeb said, being able to play on the go is a big plus in my opinion, especially with being able to play it with friends with the 2 joycons.
Would I say it's worth 60$? Only if you really care about the new content, if not then no, don't bother.

I don't know, the only reason why a person like me would buy it it's because I don't have neither the original game or a Wii U.
