In case anyone was wondering, the reason the character’s appearance is inconsistent is because the latter 4 events were originally from a separate game. In Japan, the first 4 events were released as “Hyper Olympics” and the other 4 events were from the sequel, “Hyper Sports”. The American version combined both games into a full set of events, which is why the 5th thru 8th events use different graphics for the player and scoreboard. This is also why the music is completely different for when you win, lose, or get a game over on the 5th thru 8th event (and I’m sure a couple characters in the font even look slightly different).
