It's supposed to be a joke, had the game come out in Japan, it would have been blatant with the title Parody World.

@EmRuHire Same reason there were legs poking out of the ground as enemies. The entire game was a product of the principle of "Why? Why NOT?!"
What seems to confuse me is that red monster with green eyes saying "Sorry... I'm Dead...", for what reason does it need to be in the game?
Something curious about the food boss, is that it's name is a pun. It's a parody of the movie "The Fly" (and because L/R are inversed in Japan, this one is called "The Fry").

Now that the proto is dumped, I suppose the Beta Plant boss (as well as the other beta-only bosses) could now be accurately ripped instead of being a custom.
