In the other versions it's apparently stated he was deliberately attempting to bring about an extended Dark Age.
Bowser's idea was a noble one, but his heart was in the wrong place.
@EXEcutor Umm, Nintendo and SEGA and most other video game companies do that too, if anything, the lack of it on the credits screen makes them more modest (or embarrassed, take your pick).
I swear, The Software Toolworks really want credit for the bad shit they make to the point that they put their own company name on TWO copyright screens. I'm surprised that they didn't do it on the credits screen at all.
