Well to be fair he technically predated most of the others, so...
What a nerdy name for a knight.
Now that I though of it... "Jim" is such a common name for videogame characters, sorta; there's Jim The Knight from Hydlide, Jim Power from, well, Jim Power, Earthworm Jim, etc.

It seems to only apply to the original game and Special. Couldn't find any reference to Jim for 2 or 3.
@SiFi270: Yep, that's his name according to the NES manual for the game.
