Alternatively, Ossan is P1 and Mario is P2.
Contrary to popular belief, Ossan is not actually a different character from Mario. “Ossan” was yet another alternative name used internally for Mario (along with “Jumpman” and “Mr. Video”) before they gave him his *official* name. And I know someone’s gonna bring up Captain Rainbow, so I’ll just say his appearance is mario in an alternate, more out-of-shape form and leave it at that.

I also now notice that he looks weirdly like Captain Lou's Mario.... "weirdly" because this game came out like 2 years before the show, and of course, was from Japan.
