It's fun that these sprites won't only be remembered for being Godzilla, but also due to that one story with that Red scorpion thing.
Danggg that dithering is fantastic. These sprites look so clean, especially for NES hardware. Probably helps that they're so big.

Actually, it is. The black is a trick from putting transparency on a black background. They also did that for Bowser's cuffs in Super Mario Bros. and boss outlines in Super Mario Bros. 3 and the Mega Man games.

Are the sprites screwed up? I don't think the eye is supposed to be transparent...
