Because at this point Mario was meant to be able to fill any role any game required.

@GuyWhoSleeps They did that with literally every arcade game at that time, which caused the Video Game Market Crash of '83 in America. Donkey Kong is just one of the only ones people remember, along with Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man.
why did they port donkey kong more than 20 times?
