The pod has additional sprites placed on top of it, white column-looking things either side, which are also at 50% opacity (so the net affect is 75% when combined with the greenish stuff beneath).

Alpha's also used on the various effects that follow her around (smoke / rocks / etc), but the pod's where it stands out the most.
