@SuperGamecube: That's pretty much the reason why, yeah. :P
I wonder why the game developers didn't just divide him up into pieces and instead used a ton of whole body sprites like they did in the first Paper Mario. Maybe its because they couldn't make all of the body parts fade in and out all at once, so they probably had to use full body sprites in order for the invisible, ghost effect to work properly.
