The graphics labeled "???" are used in a unique running animation that never plays in-game but is in Peach's model.
peach is in the playable section of paper mario, yet you don't battle anyone in her story
Some of Bowser's segments contain classic sidescrolling stages filled with enemies, and some of Peach's contain puzzle/memory elements.
@Doc Segments that are supplemental to the main story and contain no battles. I also have General Leo and Banon in the NPCs section of FF6, despite them both briefly being playable. The Playable Characters section is generally used for permanent members of the playable party.
Not really? They barely appear at all outside their own playable segments.
@MarioMania2460 Their main role in the story is as supporting characters/NPCs.
Why are Peach and Bowser listed as Non playable characters? After each chapter there's a part where you play as Peach and Bowser.
At least we know nothing happens in that one scene where peach goes to the shower.

They REALLY wanted to push boundaries in these games of the era
With Pikmin 2 in the same year as this having a boss that gives childbirth and a marijuana plant collectible, and Shadow the Hedgehog coming out the very next year and that speaks for itself
