Not sure, honestly. They clearly put some effort into it, as the level is fully functional, even has the Fire Man fight at the end even though there're no other enemies in the level. The stage even has a unique song! Pretty cool, regardless.
Neat! I wonder why they changed it?
Kudos to The Cutting Room Floor for letting me know this even existed in the first place. :P
