@ValisEmma Most of it apparently is a FMV, it also has the palette cycle effect that's featured in Magical Drop, AirForce Delta and a few others to produce those colours bypassing the usual limitations... I think it is a scanline effect because it changes very rapidly and for Cannon Fodder, it uses the background palettes (because I checked via mGBA for you) and for that... you can only have 32 colours at a time split into 8 palettes of 4 colours each. I don't know the frame rate of the video to exactly calculate how many frames or seconds the palette changes. The palette effect has its limitations because I don't recall seeing it in gameplay, only title screens, menus and intros. Yet despite being a video, it is converted to GBC tile format meaning that you can actually rip the frames, just not displayed the same way as capturing them (these were captured, much easier to do). It has the same palette effect for the menu, shown as prerendered 3D.

A few GBC games did also have FMV outside of this game e.g. F1 World Grand Prix (EUR version only), F1 Racing Championship with the latter cannot be ripped as it's not converted to GBC tile format and shows up as a blocky mess if you try to rip it. It's like the difference between Sonic CD and Sewer Shark (or most FMV games) on the Sega CD in terms of video, one converted to the system using the VDP tile system (or in simple terms, the same way that the graphics such as the sprites and background tile sets are done) while the other is literally a video converted with a codec.

It is very impressive for the system and kudos to the devs.
