It's funny how so many people (including me) used to think Vapor 2 was Giygas.

@Ton you can say that again but I am afraid its more less than a speculation. According to Itoi during a interview about Mother 3 when it was worked on for the N64, Gygas was planned earlier to return as Gygas used to be a very important villain and supposed to appear throughout all 3 Earthbound games. Gygas would appear during the boss fight against Claus as you can see Claus is mixed up with the Gygas backgrounds which could mean he was going to be possesed by Gygas (keep in mind Gygas was already dead as this game took place many years after the first 2 games and he become nother more than a evil spirit. Its possible that Gygas could have possessed Porky and used him instead of Porky's own will as both characters have a hatred against the player and people whom Gygas would call "earthlings". The very whole thing about Porky invading the island to take over the village and changing it into his own civilazation sound like a part of Gygas's own doing, something that Gygas himself could do as a act of revenge if he weren't dead from the previous game (again, because he's a ghost but just because he's a ghost doesn't mean he can't do anything as we already saw that ghosts in Earthbound like the ones Ness and Lucas have fought are capable of seeing and touching things, so the case for Gygas here is that he could return anytime and anywhere in his old spirit form even after Ness defeated him, it would be hard to believe how a spirit could actually die if they're already dead though). Its possible that this game Mother 3 could have a entirely different story altogether before even this game was out! Its possible that Itoi could have planned to use the old storyline from the lost N64 game as it should have been intended but as what we got look like a last minute change to rush the game's release.

I'm pretty sure that's just fan speculation.

@Arturmsbr2 Itoi said that the final boss was originally intended to be a nightmarish sequence without any dialogue, and these backgrounds are remnants of that unused final boss idea. It was changed due to it being pure nightmare fuel, which I can totally agree on.

dear god--
thats so fucking nightmare fuel, damn, if i can recall correctly you can still load it up in the game with some hacking or cheats, it has some animations and its creepy

i do still wonder what was their original purpose though

@Faizal786sunny that's honestly a surprising reason for this to go unused, considering everything that mother 2 was

@TGVaporeon yeah if you know why This was unused, it’s due to nightmare fuels
