so it seems that the reason their faces are pink in the original game, but black in the remake is because in the new prototype that released it was discovered that their faces were always meant to be black, so the pink faces are most likely caused by some issue with the palette
Huh, looking at these closely, seems there was some slight detail on the chest that was lost in the remake.
