The samus figures were a little prophetic, there. Instead of the fusion and varia suit, we got the phazon suit as a figure.

Actually though, I like all this art a lot. I prefer this interpretation of Samus outside her armor over anything shown before or after.

something interesting that most people wouldn't notice regarding the images of young Samus is that each increasingly better rank has her at a different chronological point in her life.
