Basically an early form of online play for handhelds before the wireless play on the DS/PSP but it wasn't really successful and was scrapped early on the GBA's life (some games that used this was released outside of Japan but with the feature removed e.g. Pokémon Crystal, Top Gear GT Championship, Mario Kart: Super Circuit). Doesn't help that you had to get the right cable for your phone network.
