His eyes are wrong and so is his head shape on side facing sprites.
Yeah, I see some of that.
This is really just a fairly obvious edit of Sonic, given how Knuckles's eye shape is the same as Sonic's (notice the monoeye?) and how the shoes are unchanged from the original sprite.
