Wow. Tyson hesse.

oh what cool sprites i think i remember thes- TYSON F*CKING WHO NOW!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Back in the MFZ days I'd never have guessed that the maker of THESE sprites would hit it big, they always looked kinda wonky. I'd have guessed Cylent-Nite or DBurraki.

Oh my god, upon skimming the credit blurb thought they were crediting who made the original sprites and thought, "oh, Mania edits I guess, idk." Then I saw the geocities link and the rest of it. This is beyond surreal omg

@junebug347: Yep!

is that the guy who made sonic mania adventures?

well....thats AMAZING
from a spriters to a creative direction of sonic....

Oh...my. Just... I didn't know you make sprites, I only know your animations.

Oh yeah, it's definitely from at least 2003. Tyson had his own style that was mimicked by a few other custom spriters at the time (you can find some of those sheets on here too). He was very influential in the Sonic spriting community's early days.
That's why it was important to track these down and host them! Look at what has happened since Tyson Hesse made these; He's gone on to help spearhead the creative direction of Sonic!
When MFZ went away it was important to me to find all of these old sprites that helped form the community and give them a new home. New spriters here may not know the history of our hobby.

Circa 2000, if I remember rightly. It was used often by the time I started spriting in 2005.

geocities?, how old this sprite?

I love how Tails looks in this. I can’t exactly put my finger on why or where it looks amazing, it just... does.
Also Tyson Hesse himself made this? Wow, that’s awesome.
Edit: Sonic’s got a little bit of a SADX vibe goin’ on, just noticed.

@Alzter Yup, Yup.
God damn, the very same Tyson Hesse?

OK. Until recently, my bandwidth (and as such, ability to look at YouTube and play online games) from home has been positively abysmal, so I have been unable to keep track of such things.
Anyways, from the short amount of that animation I watched, wowee that is some improvement!

He's doing this:
He also did a lot of work on the Archie Sonic comic and he's been working for the new IDW one.

Can someone maybe provide a link to whatever it is you're talking about him doing now?
(I didn't keep track of much people's whereabouts from TMFZ after it stopped updating...)

Not gonna lie, that Tails and Knux sprite looks amazing. Hesse sure has come a long way since then.

Woah, this is so surreal. It's like looking at someone's old baby pictures.
