@KirbyLover2048 out of all the koopalings only Iggy appears and he makes a duo with spike in the movie as well (also yes they were human).
Shouldn't Spike be...a Spike? It feels weird for him to not be his namesake game counterpart like everyone else

@DeltaMudkip Indeed it is! In fact the Super Scope was even used as the prop for the devolution guns, painted in dark colours.
This is so good; is Bowser's gun a Super Scope? (cuz if so that makes it even better)

Yeah, this is a mix between the game designs and the movie designs.
@SpiritZ: That's correct, yes; Bowser was originally a human in the older movie. We haven't seen ANYTHING about the Illumination one yet so it'd be impossible unless something was hypothetically leaked. I don't remember the Koopalings in the movie but I'd assume they were humans too. Goombas and Koopas too except with a more grotesque humanoid face design for each.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Bowser an actual human in the original movie? I don't remember much from it, but I'm pretty sure that was the case. I assume this is referencing the original movie and not the Illumination one but I also see Iggy and other enemies too.
Or is this an interpretation of them as if they were in Super Mario World? I was also confused about that as well.
