@gc_2.0 Why mario is in 8x12 pixels is most likely to optimize sprites, so they didn't have to add extra sprites for the big form while still making them look good in both forms.
why is Mario in 8 by 12 pixels? also you can do sprite optimizing by removing palette swaps

Certainly there is already exists a Pico-8 version from Super Mario Bros. (https://www.lexaloffle.com/bbs/?tid=28942), but not with such a huge resemblance to the NES version.
