Yes, it is. It seems to help for when Mario and Luigi pass in front of the pipes.
Is the black on all these legit to the tiles? Seems a bit redundant to the background, and some are given transparent pupils, so I want to be sure.

@Kc64: In layman's terms, it's usually the demonstration seen when idling on the title screen for a while, named as such as it's meant to attract potential players.

Ah yes my favorite character PLATFORM
It seems that when green fireballs appear, they appear purple, and when red fireballs disappear, they appear blue.
When red fireballs are appearing/disappearing, they sometimes appear blue, and when green fireballs are appearing/disappearing, they sometimes appear purple.
Do those purple and blue fireballs ever appear in-game?
This is also missing an unused enemy (At least I think it's meant to be an enemy) and some unused poses which can be found here. Also, some of Mario's sprites during attract mode have a different eye color.

@Snessy the duck It's used for both brothers when they get hit by a Slipice or icicle.
